How Mighty Community Advocacy started….
Founded by Nishea Trinidad, who has spent over a decade organizing for and supporting adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in the Bay Area and Central Valley.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, after being denied unemployment benefits for nine months, Nishea founded Mighty Community Advocacy using her personal stimulus checks to meet urgent community needs in Fresno. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Mighty launched in June 2020 and quickly became a vital support network.
Mighty continues to center trauma-informed, culturally relevant, and youth-led healing. The organization has since grown into a robust, wrap-around service organization providing culturally-rooted care for youth navigating hospitals, courts, schools, and other impacting systems.
Mighty specifically works with pregnant youth, young parents, and families in Fresno, CA, aiming to disrupt cycles of trauma and promote healing. From its initial focus on patient advocacy, Mighty Community Advocacy has expanded its services to encompass a wider range of support, including doula services and care management. As a part of care management services, Mighty offers advocacy and educational resources to help individuals navigate systems like healthcare, courts, and educational institutions. Mighty organizes events and initiatives to engage community members and build a more inclusive accessible community.
