Meet Our Team

  • Nishea Trinidad was born on Muwekma Ohlone land (colonized San Jose, California) and grew up truly a 90s kid.  Nishea is the eldest daughter of an eldest daughter in a matriarchal CHamoru family.  She has been a single parent to her young adult daughter since their birth.  Currently, Nishea is the Executive Director of the organization she founded in 2020, Mighty Community Advocacy.  She sits on the Mighty board as Board Chair.  Nishea identifies as a disabled, queer, indigenous woman who has learned how each of her intersections has affected her experience in the world.  She is also a product of familial incest from childhood, a survivor of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and a survivor of financial abuse from a parent.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, after being denied unemployment benefits for nine months, Nishea founded Mighty Community Advocacy using her personal stimulus checks to meet urgent community needs in Fresno. In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Mighty launched in June 2020 and quickly became a vital support network.  Mighty specifically works with pregnant youth, young parents, and families in Fresno, CA, aiming to disrupt cycles of trauma and promote healing. From its initial focus on patient advocacy, Mighty Community Advocacy has expanded its services to encompass a wider range of support, including doula services and care management. As a part of care management services, Mighty offers advocacy and educational resources to help individuals navigate systems like healthcare, courts, and educational institutions.  Mighty organizes events and initiatives to engage community members and build a more inclusive accessible community.

While attending college, Nishea faced intimate partner violence during pregnancy and fled the relationship while six months pregnant. As a young adult, she reported her childhood incest and experienced criminal court as a survivor utilizing storytelling throughout the trial.  She also began volunteering with YWCA, completing her Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Advocate training in 2014. In this role, she supported survivors during forensic exams and legal proceedings, ultimately contributing over 1,500 hours of direct advocacy and care. Years later, Nishea became a state-certified foster parent, caring for CSEC youth, medically fragile infants, pregnant youth, and young parents. Nishea built a successful career in sales and sales support, working with major tech companies like AT&T, Google, and Flextronics, where she gained experience managing global teams, scaling operations, and overseeing contract management. Within recent years, Nishea was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and several comorbidities.  Learning how to bring herself back to homeostasis while working with several different specialties in the medical industrial complex has been a process.  Every day Nishea is learning what she needs for pain management and balance within her physical, spiritual, emotional self.

  • My greatest intention for the community members we serve is for our members to have autonomy and choice in every decision they make. I want them to know I have their back, whichever decision they choose for themselves, whether it be reproductive, academic, or for their future.

I became a doula to be a space holder for anyone experiencing any sort of life change or vulnerability. I want anyone I come into contact with to know I support their rights to their body and space. I also believe that your body is such a sacred, vulnerable space and deserves to be honored.

The core beliefs that drive me are consent, respect, and safety.

If I had to describe myself in three words I’d use Virgo-energy, space holding, and advocacy.

If you’re interested in making tangible donations or inquire about partnerships, please send me an email!

  • I began working with Mighty in 2020 and have been with Mighty through the positive changes made over the years. I am now apart of Mighty’s Los Angeles chapter and hope to bring the joy that mighty brings in Fresno, here, in LA. I am currently finishing up my Masters degree in Latin American Studies. Last year I completed my bachelor’s in Sociology with an emphasis on race, class and gender studies. My desire to further my education has always been out of love for my community, and to uplift and center voices of the most marginalized communities. I am a revolutionary optimist, I believe that a better world is on its way, and it is through cultivating community that the world we envision can be made possible. As I continue my journey with Mighty, I hope to provide safety for those who have never felt safe. My wish Is that each community member thrives in their own autonomy.
