Mighty Policy Work

Mighty acknowledges the immense privilege it is to be able to advocate for our communities thru policy advocacy and supporting with upstream policy work. Nishea has been an active participant in policy and political education since she was in high school, as she became more vocal against systems with her lived experiences she naturally began policy work.  While Mighty is an indigenous, woman run organization we believe in and stand by the current Land Back Movement.  While this is a foundational belief of our staff, executives, and board, we understand that we must exist in the current way of life; this is why we believe in advocacy thru policy and community education.  During the 2020 and 2024 Presidential Elections, Mighty created a bi-partisan Voter’s Guide on propositions and candidates.

In our support for California Assembly Bill 3161, Mighty was able to advocate for support with Senator Anna Caballero.  AB3161 was enacted into legislation on September 1, 2024.  Mighty has signed onto several letters in support of healthcare funding and Medicaid access for all.

For Lexus’ thesis work, she planned, budgeted, built, and threw a benefit show for Mosh for Youth.  Part of the benefit show was a day market and community resources. Mighty supported community with providing education on how to get an abortion in California, abortion resources in LA, and harm reduction training on-site.  Mighty donated supplies to community members like NARCAN and contraceptives.  Education, creating access to rights, and helping bring awareness are  innovative ways Mighty does policy advocacy work.

As a Mighty representative, Nishea has participated in advocacy days in Washington DC as a RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) Speaker Bureau Member.  Nishea has supported state policy work with California Pan-Ethnic Health Network (CPEHN) in their Having Our Say Advocacy Day 2025.

In Spring 2025, Mighty, in partnership with Health Access and CPEHN, hosted listening sessions for Central Valley Birthworkers and parents to discuss medi-cal/medicaid issues throughout providers and beneficiaries.
